The Strømøy family has been involved in powerboating since 1965 when Leif Strømøy started racing, He raced for several years in different classes. His daughter Marit Strømøy started racing in 1989, only 12 years old. In 1993 she started racing in S-550 and was three times European Champion before moving up to F-2000 in year 2000. F1 was always the main goal for Marit and in 2007 she got the chance in the to class of powerboating. She is the only female driver in the field.

In 2009 Marit will be racing i F1 World Cup, F-2000 Scandinavian Series and Endurance World Championship.
