Strømøy Racing
The Team
The Strømøy family has been involved in powerboating since 1965 when Leif Strømøy started racing. He raced for several years in different classes until the 1990's. His daughter Marit Strømøy started racing in 1989, only 12 years old. In 1993 she started racing in S-550 and was three times European Champion before moving up to F-2000 in year 2000 and F1 in year 2007.
Through the years Strømøy Racing has worked with several mechanics, crewmembers, and other teams. Already in the start in 1989 we had help from Kristoffer Guldbransen which has been a mechanic and true friend through all the years. Together with the Strømøy family he's travelled all over the world with the Team from T-250 up to today's F1.
At the start of F2 and for 4-5 years Strømøy Racing was domintaed by girls as Celin Vanay, Trude Skjærvik and Annethe Thorsrud among others were a part of the team. The team travelled Europe by car following the F2 World Cup tour and got a lot of publicity from this "scoop".
In 2006 Marit was picked up by French Team Ixe to participate in the Endurance World Championship resulting in three podiums in the legendary 24 hour race of Rouen.
In 2007 Marit was part of a three boat team in F2 called F1 Team Sweden. This was the start of a new adventure for Marit as the team gave her an oportunity the same year to race in F1. F1 was always the main goal and when she got the chance she took it and held on to it.
The year of 2008 Marit raced in F1 for the Italian Rainbow Team and in the season of 2009 and 2010 she raced with Team Azerbaijan.
2010 was a very active year for Marit Strømøy as she debuted in Offshore Class 1 in the season opener in Rio de Janeiro, raced F1 in South Africa and joined the F1 World Cup for Team Azerbaijan.
This year she is concentrating only on the F1 World Championship. Marit is the only female driver in the field of the F1 World Championship. In 2011 Marit is racing for the Team Nautica owned by Paola Gillman. Fabio Comparato is her mentor and mechanic with help from his mechanical crew. Frenchman Jean Claude Goy is the radioman of Marit and the team manager of Team Nautica.
Strømøy Racing wishes to thank all the crew, mechanics, helpers, fans, friends and sponsors that has helped us through all these years!!
